About ScaleWiki

Updated 3 October 2026

What this project does

ScaleWiki is an independent educational reference about distributed systems. It combines concise explanations, interactive models and worked design exercises. It is intended for readers learning how to reason about load, consistency, failures and operational tradeoffs.

Three ways to learn

  • Reference articles explain mechanisms and their limits. Use them to clarify a term or connect related ideas.
  • Design exercises start with hypothetical requirements, work through estimates and examine failure paths. Company names identify familiar product categories; they do not imply privileged knowledge or affiliation.
  • The capacity lab lets you change workload assumptions and inspect every equation. Its results are estimates, not measurements of your application.

How to read an example

Keep the workload and failure assumptions beside the result. A diagram deliberately leaves out details; a code fragment demonstrates one mechanism. Neither is a complete deployment specification. Before adopting a pattern, test it with your own data, latency targets, security requirements and failure scenarios.

Who publishes it

Content is published under the ScaleWiki project name. The project is not affiliated with the companies or products discussed. We do not present unverified professional credentials or company endorsements as evidence for a technical claim.
